Ramadaan: A time for generosity
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
*Ramadaan is a time when we try to dig deep into our pockets*
Being charitable is an important trait in a Muslim whether it is Ramadaan or not. So what makes many of us more generous in this blessed month than we might usually be? Obviously the incentive of good deeds carrying extra rewards in Ramadaan is a real motivator, but it is also a specific sunnah (tradition of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) to increase one’s generosity in this month. I know for myself, the extra motivation definitely comes from this hadith:
Ibn Abbas reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, was the most generous of the people, and he used to be more so in the month of Ramadan when Gabriel visited him. Gabriel would meet with him every night of Ramadan until the end of the month. The Prophet would recite the Qur’an to Gabriel. When Gabriel met him, he would be more generous than a swift wind (bringing rain). [Bukhari]
The video below is a great motivator for Muslims to dig deep this month and for those non-Muslims of you watching it, hopefully you will realise that when we help others we actually see our ourselves as being equal beneficiaries- if not more- as we are earning the blessings of our Lord.
